The walk
“The Walk” is the title of Marc #Chagall dreamlike work.
Married for a couple of years, the author portrays himself and his beloved #wife Bella: from his #smile and she hovering in the air, we perceive how #happy they are. The flight also symbolizes the transcendence of #feeling.
☞ Do you know…
‣ The context is a #picnic – note the bottle of wine and the glass set on the grass 🍷
In his left hand Marc holds a #bird that represents their love for #nature while behind the characters is Vitebsk, a town of Belarus, where they were both born and living at the time. The pink building is the synagogue, to give greater importance to the “spiritual construction”
‣ Chagall’s #style is strongly influenced here by the #cubism with which he had come into contact in previous years in Paris. There is a lack of geometric #perspective but the proportions of the elements define its distance/proximity from the observer. Lastly, the joined #arms of the two subjects form a diagonal that runs the canvas ending with the #tablecloth
