

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque
This majestic #building in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, was built between 1996 and 2007 by Syrian #architect Yousef Abdelky 🕌
With its 22.412 square meters, the Sheikh Zayed #GrandMosque is considered the third #largest in the world. If you need to get a sense of proportion, just imagine five #football fields!
Not surprisingly it can accommodate over 40.000 worshippers

Inside there is: a main prayer hall, a second hall and a women’s prayer hall and four #minarets

The main #attractions of the mosque are:
🔎 the Qibla #wall, designed by Mohammed Mandi Al Tamimi and featuring the 99 names of God (Allah)
🔎 the outside is characterized by a 180,000 square foot #courtyard with a #famous floral design and surrounded by 82 domes: it’s considered the largest example of #marble #mosaic in the world
🔎 the hand-knotted #carpet in the prayer hall is the #largest ever made in Iran (it took 3 planes to transport it)
🔎 finally also the crystal #chandelier is the largest inside a #mosque
