The Moai of Easter Island
Who has never seen or heard of these sculptures?
The well-known Moai are found on Easter Island, so called because it was discovered on Easter Day in 1722. There are about a thousand of them scattered over the entire surface of the island.

‣ We see only the heads but, in the ground, almost all of them also have the body sculpted and finished; their height is between 9 and 33 ft weighing tens of tons each.
‣ We see them without eyes because tradition wanted them to be set in the stone face only when the statue was erected and placed on the altar. The eyes were made with finest materials, such as white coral and obsidian, so the ancestors could project their energy through them.
