☞ Do you know…
‣ Icon of the capital, it’s placed on a rock in the sea at the entrance to the #port of Copenhagen. The statue was commissioned by the son of the founder of the #Carlsberg brewery, one of the most important in the world, to be a gift to the city. For the realization of the work the sculptor used his wife as a model
‣ The #littlemermaid has suffered many abuses, acts of vandalism by fanatics, extremists, thugs. It was in fact beheaded twice, amputated of one arm, repeatedly colored and even teared off from the rock and disappeared for a few days. All this, besides provoking the indignation of the #community and of the tourists who come from everywhere to admire and photograph it, has meant that what we see today is one of the copies that over time have been replaced
