The Heydar Aliyev Center
When a building become a #symbol of an historic moment…
In 1991 Azerbajan declared independence from the Soviet Union and decided to invest in modernising the architecture of its capital #Baku
·
The project is still going ahead and in 2007 the architect Zaha #Hadid won a competition regarding the construction of the primary building for the nation’s cultural programs: The Heydar Aliyev Center
·
The 619,000 sq ft building is named after a president of the #Azerbaijan Republic and was officially opened on 10 May 2012.
Its innovative and curved design breaks from the rigid soviet style, eschewing sharp angles and creating a single continuous surface that perfectly integrates with its surrounding plaza, fluidly becoming an element of the #landscape
·
Inside the center you can find a 1000-seat auditorium, a museum, a conference #center and many other spaces located on eight floor levels
🏅
This Center also broke an important #record because of it Zaha Hadid was the first woman to win the Designs of the Year Award!
