The cube houses
In 1977 the Dutch architect Piet Blom designed in Rotterdam a set of very clever houses known around the world as “The cube houses”
🎲
Each house has the shape of a tree with a hexagon-shaped trunk and with the main structure tilted 45-degree on their side. All together they represent an abstract #forest
🌳
The purpose of this innovative #design was not merely artistic, as Blom wanted to optimize them to make the most of the available #space allowing a better distribution of the rooms inside.
The 38 houses are one of the most famous attractions in #Rotterdam but, if you are visiting #Netherlands you should also check out Helmond, the city where Blom constructed his first 18 experimental #cubic houses

In 2009 the two larger houses, known as “Super cubes” were converted into a #hostel and tourists can experience living inside a #Cube !
If you live across the ocean, you should probably visit Toronto where in 1996 the #architect Ben Kutner built 3 individual cubic houses still spectacular!
