Needle, Thread and Knot
Today many children celebrate the World Kids Colouring Day, which wants to help those less lucky to make where they live more beautiful, inviting them to #color it!
So we too have chosen a non-monochromatic #sculpture “Needle, Thread and Knot”
☞ Do you know…
‣ The colors here are not only decorative but have a meaning: they represent exactly the three lines of Milan’s metropolitan (before the Municipality made two more). The work is located in Piazzale Cadorna, the main hub of Milanese transport and consists of two parts: on one side the needle – which you see here – on the other the knot, to evoke the passage in the subsoil just like the means of transport that connects the whole city
‣ The artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, husband and wife, have managed to sculpt the metaphor of the place where their work would have been placed but, through these elements, they also paid tribute to Milan’s influence in the fashion industry
