Liberty statue of Budapest
Today many European cities, like the Italian ones, celebrate and remember the day in which they took back the most dear thing to the people – freedom – defeating a common enemy: Nazism.
☞ Do you know…
‣ This is one of the art works most openly dedicated to the occasion, not surprisingly its name is precisely: “Liberty Statue” and it’s located on top of a hill in Budapest’s center, Hungary.
‣ The female bronze figure, with arms stretched towards the sky, holds a palm leaf – symbol of victory – it’s 14 meters high and the pedestal is almost double. These emphasized gestures and the grandeur of the work want to underline its meaning: note in the foreground the character who lands and strikes a dragon (symbol of strength and – here – of the oppressor).
