A Bar at the Folies-Bergère
Saturday something like that may come to your mind: a trendy club…
“A Bar at the Folies-Bergère” was a renowned coffee-concert in the heart of Paris where people used to meet.
☞ Do you know…
‣ It’s the last work by Édouard #Manet before die and be consecrated as a #great #artist
In this #painting he has perfectly rendered the #feeling of a disillusioned & disenchanted young girl-dreamer; through her gaze, the care of her clothing and the awkward attitude of her body in contrast to her innocent face. The solitude of Suzon, in the refined and crowded meeting place of the city
‣ What, however, makes the work so “alive” and that allows the viewer to savor the #atmosphere is the mirror: it’s there that we see the crowd, a multitude of #people …while not being in the foreground, which on the contrary, is dominated by the #stilllife on the counter. The details, which immediately reveal the #mirror are the back of the girl and that #gentleman in front of her (on our right), whose position coincides with that of the observer
